Police Kill One in Kano as Students Protest Murder of Colleague

Kano — Students of the School of Environmental Studies, Gwarzo, were shattered weekend when one of them was allegedly killed by a police bullet when the students stormed the Gwarzo Police Station to demand justice over an alleged murder of one of them by an unidentified students of Government Secondary School, Gwarzo.

A student of the school, Tahir Kabir (Abba), 22 according to witnesses, died as a result of gun shots from the police while one other student suffered a serious injury.

Three students reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries and were admitted at Gwarzo General Hospital. They were later discharged after treatment, while the school was also closed pending the resolution of the crisis.

The deceased's family had pointed accusing fingers at the police but the state police PRO, SP Baba Mohammed Azare, said no case could be established yet as the police were waiting for the result of an autopsy on the corpse.
